_____________
We
have programs for all ages. Our educational presentations have been given
at the Darien Public schools for many years.
We teach kindergarten students
through fourth graders.

The
kindergarteners receive environmental lunch boxes, the first graders
have precycling/recycling programs, the second
graders learn
about composting while the fourth graders receive a wonderful talk on
water conservation. New volunteers are always welcome. The training is
easy and the audience always appreciative!

DEG
also greets new residents to Darien with welcome reuseable grocery
bags.
They
are filled with information about recycling
in Connecticut, wetlands
information and much more. We
are always looking for additional drivers to drop off a few bags
to new members of our community. It's easy
and fun.
The
Darien Environmental group was featured on the Martha Stewart
program a few years back. One of our members
talked about precycling/recycling.
Focusing on how each of us can make a difference to the environment
with our consumer habits.
One
of DEG's most successful projects was our plastic recycling program at
the dump. One Saturday
of the month we would collect all plastics, styrofoam and
plastic bags that the town's recycling program did not accept.
These
were then sent to a local plastic recycler who manufactured
plastic products from the waste. Unfortunately
the recycler went out of business, thus ending the project.
